Message from the founder of the Lisa Johnson Foundation
As the founder of the Lisa Johnson Foundation, I realize the importance of educating families on the top causes of teen motor vehicle crashes and how to prevent them. My 16-year old daughter, Lisa Johnson, was killed in 2003 while riding in a vehicle driven by a teen driver. My life has changed dramatically. In the process, I have learned life-saving information that I feel compelled to share. I liken it to walking past a building that has caught on fire. Knowing that lives could be at stake, I would stop and do what I could to help. I see many parents and guardians that are not armed with the facts on preventing teen vehicle crashes. They are placing their teen in an elevated risk category and don't even know it. It's as if their home is "on fire" and they are unaware. Their teen's life is worth saving, so I have a responsibility to share the life-saving knowledge that I have learned. Parents and guardians have always known the value of having plans: insurance plans, savings plans, retirement plans, education and vacation plans, yet, having an effective driving plan for their new teen driver is often left off of the list. At the most dangerous point in their child's life, a driving plan is critical! Lisa Johnson Foundation members know that knowledge is power. We work to arm parents and guardians with the facts of main causes of teen motor vehicle crashes, and a plan to prevent them. The mission of the Lisa Johnson Foundation will continue, because a teen's life is worth saving!
